ura soul created a reference page A guide to administering and maintaining groups at Ureka (edited)

So you have your very own group at Ureka and want to customise it, invite members and grow your vision? Then this guide is for you. There are 4 main aspects involved with maintaining and administering a group at ureka: Defining the group's intentions, theme, privacy levels and any policies that are needed. Adding and curating content within the group - to ensure your group functions in the way you intend and is interesting/useful for your members. Maintaining the member list - including inviting new members, removing those who break your policies & approving new members (if your group is a private one). Defining who will be the administrator(s) of the group. Each of these topics is covered below in it's own section: 1. Defining the group's intentions, theme, privacy levels and any policies that are needed.   Intentions and policies Every group will have slightly different needs, according to the intentions behind their creation. you can define your intentions by writing them in your group's description, along with any rules you wish to implement within the group such as 'no advertising whatsoever', or whatever other policy you decide upon. Privacy levels The privacy levels can be changed by clicking the 'edit this group' button on your group's homepage and then clicking the 'access' tab at the top of that page. Theme and appearance The homepage of the group can be customised by adding/removing page elements, dragging them to new locations and...

ura soul created a reference page A guide to creating your own group at Ureka (edited)

Looking for a way to create an online space that's just for your specific needs and the needs of your team, friends or other group? maybe your own group at Ureka would fit your needs. Groups are a kind of site within a site at ureka.org that allow groups of co-creators to unite for specific purposes - so that, for example, specialists in different forms of healing can have their own groups, creators of specific technologies can have their own groups and so too can anyone else for any other reason that is relevant to the intentions of the ureka community. Groups provide the following features: Allow any number of co-creators to participate as a group. Can be public or private and thus either visible to the wider internet, or not. Private groups can be by invitation only. Allow media and other content to be contained within the group and so can be visible and editable only by members of the group - if preferred. Media and other content can still be accessible to the public, if preferred, but be contained by the group so that they can be easily located and used as a resource. Groups can have one or more administrators who are responsible for maintaining and guiding the group and it's content. Administrators can remove members from the group, approve new members, design the group's homepage and access a variety of other relevant tools. How to create a new group Creating a group is a straightforward process that is outlined below. Once your group is created, it will...

the list of zones at ureka has been intentionally short to keep a focus on specific topics, however, now that the bulk of the technical tasks are totally or partially complete, i am giving more priority to expanding the site and that means allowing anyone to create their own zones.\r\nin case you are unaware, zones at ureka function like 'groups' on facebook and 'communities' on Google+, in that they provide a space for sharing and communicating on specific topics with a minimal amount of setup and no technical skills required. i will be writing a full page on this topic and sending a site-wide email notification soon - however, you can start your own zone right away... just go to the main 'zones' page and click 'create new zone' to get started. alternatively, there is also a button in the main site navigation for the same purpose in the zone section.\r\nto create zone you need to name it, provide a description, a photo/image and also configure the other options, such as it's privacy level and which forms of content that you, as admin, will allow within the zone. once you save your new zone it will be reviewed by the site admin and then either accepted or rejected, depending primarily on whether or not the intention of the zone violates the terms of agreement of ureka.org.\r\ninjoy!

since there are some pages where it is preferable to sign-in and not be forwarded to the activity page (such as when you wish to comment on a video and then sign in to comment on it and are taken away from the video after signing-in), the auto-forwarding after sign-in has been temporarily disabled. this feature will be re-enabled once it has been enhanced to only apply to specific pages and not all of them.

the test site has a totally different database to the main site, so you would need to create a new account for the test site if you wanted to sign-in there.

ura soul added a new thought: new feature testing: improved image galleries (edited)

i have been busy here the last few days writing code to make the image galleries in ureka much more pleasant to use and more aesthetically pleasing - to show off our images without overpowering them! i am close to uploading the changes to the main site so it would appreciate if you would take a look at the test page and provide feedback for these changes at: https://test.ureka.org/photos/siteimagesall\r\nhow does the new gallery system work for you on a large screen? a small screen? can you break it? is there a part that is difficult to use for you? let me know! thanks

another feature that got lost in the recent upgrade is back and better than ever. you can now add comments to 'things' in the community and reply to discussions without triggering a page reload. this means you can add comments to videos while you are watching them and the video will keep playing. great!
                            • ura soul

further to this - all items in the activity stream now display their privacy levels.
