sadly buddhism, like all other religions, has been corrupted in a variety of ways. fundamentally, the iconic 'teachers' of most religions essentially advocated for not being religious.
by 'iconic teacher', i was referring to jesus and buddha etc.
the incense sticks are a controversy to themselves: a) they are known to cause cancers (allegedly) b) they are often made from very low quality ingredients - down to and including shit and sawdust. c) most significantly - they are an anchoring device for basically programming consciousness with the rituals and beliefs of the cults involved. they can function somewhat like psychedelic drugs in the sense that they facilitate shifts in consciousness, so it is not surprising to me that 'love and kindness' meditators can so easily be revealed to be not what they seem by suggesting change relating to these anchoring devices.
